Turkish Programming Contest 2019
Fact Sheet

inzva is organizing the official ‘Turkish Programming Contest’; which will be held on September 13-15, 2019 at Beykoz Kundura in Istanbul. TPC is operated under the auspices of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (“ICPC”) and partnered with Middle East Technical University in collaboration with algotester.com.

Even though the national programming contest was held by METU in 2010, there have not been many participants. After its first year, the contest was deemed unsustainable and called off. Considering this, the Turkish Programming Contest 2019 held by inzva in partnership with METU carries great importance as it provides an international contest experience for Turkish students thanks to Ukranian and Turkish problem setters and a judge team consisting of leading academics in their field. As a result of algorithm programs, camps and student chapter activities held by inzva during last two years, new teams were formed in various universities and the sustainability of the Turkish algorithm community was ensured.

112 teams from 18 different universities applied to the TPC 2019 in total and 86 teams were found eligible for participation. Due to our limited quota, 56 teams were invited to participate in the Contest taking place on September 15. The teams competed against each other by solving 11 problems within 5 hours.

The programming languages of the Turkish Programming Contest were Java and C/C++, Python, C# , the available development software during the Contest was: gcc, g++, Java SDK, Vim, Java, Python Documentation, Eclipse, CodeBlocks, Atom, Clion, Sublime Text, IntelliJ, PyCharm, Visual Studio Code, Spyder

The Contest included 11 problems with different difficulty levels, only 8 of them were solved.

None of the teams were able to solve more than 8 problems in the TPC2019.

65 identical Lenovo T440 model notebooks were used during the contest.

International participants studying in Turkey used 10 English keyboards.
Ubuntu 18.04 operating system was installed on all computers.
The Contest’s CMS was algotester.com.
During the Contest, the computers connected to tpc.algotester.com through WIFI.
In total, 56 teams, 154 university students and 26 coaches attended the Contest. 30 volunteers, 5 of them were supervisors and 7 inzva team members together with the participants throughout the whole process. Overall, including guests, 300 people attended the event.
The top 10 teams will be sent to the Southeast Europe Regional Contest (SEERC) supported by BEV.Foundation.

All expenses of the Contest were covered by BEV.Foundation and Beykoz Kundura. Furthermore, Geyik Coffee Roastery & Cocktail Bar sponsored the event by providing coffee to our guests and participants. Anadolu Group provided ambulance support. Demirane Restaurant prepared all the meals and food packages, including the ones served in the closing ceremony, given during the three-day contest.

The event was completely free of charge for all participants.

The judge team and representatives from ICPC stayed at Çek Evi Boutique Hotel and Loft Flats.

The participants residing out of Istanbul stayed at Limak Hotel. inzva gift all participants with a bag, which had a TPC t-shirt, water bottle, name tag, inzva and TPC stickers and pins in.

Wemice made the stage preparations and sound system in Lastik 1, where the presentations were held, as well as the lightning, sound system and stands service in Lastik 2.

Finally, but perhaps the most important of them all, we would like to express our gratitude to all our volunteers who helped us before, during and after the Contest so that everyone could have an enjoyable experience. Special thanks to Tuğçe Ulutuğ for leading the volunteers team and making sure the Contest run smoothly, to our general manager Ahmet Utku Yavuz for diligently and carefully designing, conducting and overviewing the whole process, to our community manager Murat Karademir for taking care of our guests, to our coordinator Havva Yüksel for having all technical details properly handled before, during and after the Contest and to Almira Bağlar for helping to translate the problems to Turkish for our students.
