Deep Learning Study Group #6 Report
inzva’s second fully online Deep Learning Study Group concluded with 28 AI enthusiasts from 9 universities seeking a solid start to AI basics or refreshing their knowledge in the field as well as learning the effective ways of application. This was the sixth batch of our Deep Learning Study Group (can you believe it?) and just like each one before this, it arrived at the end with smiles of satisfaction. The program not only allowed the participants to build introductory-level skills that will guide them through their AI journey but also meet people with the same passion and interests they ended up sharing fun and productive moments.
28 graduates of the program came from 14 different universities and diverse backgrounds, and we are proud to announce that more than half of our guides were former participants of previous deep learning study groups. We thank our talented guides, Elif Yılmaz, Furkan Gürsoy, İrem Zırhlıoğlu, Sena Duman, Şafak Bilici, Uras Mutlu, and Yunus Emre Özköse for their giveback to inzva AI community.
Starting on February 13, participants got together with the guides on Zoom every week during the 12-week period to discuss the materials they had studied beforehand on https://www.deeplearning.ai. Among the subjects we discussed were optimizers, CNNs, RNNs, regularizers, and initialization schemes. The meetups, which initially started on Saturdays, shifted to Sundays with an expedient decision considering the Covid-19 regulations and requests of the community. Apart from the programming assignments and quizzes, participants also had three brief exams throughout the program.
As we are looking forward to brighter days and to return to our physical space we dearly love, digital platforms continue to provide an opportunity for us to maintain our dynamic programs, even providing some extra advantages as was it so in this fully online program. For instance, in this batch, one of seven guides, Gizem, joined us from abroad, more specifically, from London!
The participants will return to our sessions with the sixth batch of our Applied AI Study Group, which will last 6 weeks starting from July 17, to gain hands-on coding experience about more specific topics including natural language processing, computer vision, anomaly detection, and more.
Just a short farewell until then!
