Deep Learning Study Group #7 Report

Seventh batch of inzva’s Deep Learning Study Group concluded with 22 AI enthusiasts from 12 universities and different backgrounds such as computer science, mathematics, linguistics, industrial engineering, electrical electronic engineering, astronomy and more!  Not just studying and gaining introductory-level knowledge, our program also allowed our participants to build a strong network with other like-minded AI enthusiasts, having fun and spending a well productive time.

Special thanks to our guides Ahmet Melek, Enes Sadi Uysal, İrem Zırhlıoğlu, Mehmet Arif Demirtaş, Mehmet Yiğit Özgenç, Metehan Seyran, Nursena Köprücü, Onur Boyar, and Uras Mutlu for being there and sharing their experiences as well as their expertises.

Happy to say that we held our seventh batch in a hybrid-model. After a long, compulsory break, we organized 3 sleepovers in our dreamy sanctuary, Beykoz Kundura. In total, 14 participants had the opportunity experience inzva in the flesh! Thanks to our participants and Kundura employees for complying with Covid-19 regulations, these events were especially productive and fun. We organized karaoke nights, table tennis tournaments, board games and various activities to socialize and enjoy our space. It is true to say that sleepovers became an irreplaceable event of inzva AI community since the pandemic kept us apart! Thank you for all the fun and joy you bring to inzva! Our space is alive with our community and only our community!

Starting from October 2th until December 18th, for 12-weeks we got together online via Zoom with our guides, studying the topics of the week which were provided to them before the sessions on https://www.deeplearning.ai. Interactive and enlightening, subjects were everything deep learning-related including optimizers, CNNs, RNNs, regularizers, and initialization schemes. Along with the sessions, participants had 3 brief exams throughout the program on top of quizzes and assignments on the website.

It may be the end of a chapter, but the adventure never ends in inzva. Most of our graduates are joining us for the sixth batch of our Applied AI Study Group in which they aim to gain hands-on experience after this well-prepared theoretical study group. Make sure to check up on anything you might have missed!

HOW DID OUR PARTICIPANTS DO?

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK

“It might be hard to continue a course with a deep learning topic, especially if it is mostly theoric. I've made some attempts to follow this course on my own and ended up not finishing it. With this program, I had a schedule. Although I could not finish the videos weekly, our guides gave me enough information to go along and we had a chance to reinforce what we learned with the homework. After this course, you will have the fundamental knowledge to carry on deep learning projects.”

“Deep Learning Study Group 7 gave me an opportunity to learn deep knowledge, be more disciplined, and complete the courses in the most efficient way. It wouldn’t be possible without the guides who not only enthusiastically taught us but also shared their personal experiences in this field, including but not limited to their career path, challenges, and real professional practices. Therefore, I believe that I have obtained more than knowledge in this course which will have a tremendous positive impact on my future initiatives in deep learning. Apart from that, I am truly happy to have a chance to enlarge my network by interacting with new people. Thanks to our guides and inzva community for making this happen.”
