Algorithm Competition Winter Camp 2023

As we say goodbye to the Fall semester and welcome the Spring, our 5th Algorithm Competition Winter Camp is over with both new faces and a challenging, yet full of fun week.

265 students applied to the camp. Out of them 198 participants signed up for a 72-hour qualification round and sent a total of 6600 submissions!

We provided a meeting environment by bringing together 55 participants from 8 universities. In this way, a one-week algorithm journey turned into a shared and enjoyable one for them. Among our participants from Middle East Technical University, Hacettepe University, Bilkent University, Istanbul Technical University, Boğaziçi University, Yıldız Technical University, Ankara University, and Eskişehir Technical University were both community members and new members who were warmly welcomed by our algorithm community.

Our algorithm team and guides, Serra Bozkurt, Ömer Faruk Özkan, Berke Dönmez, Melih Akpınar, Emin Ersüs, Kerim Kochekov, Oğuzhan Özçelik, Hasan Bal, Aybala Karakaya, Atakan Yaşar and Orhan Uysal have prepared a curriculum for the entire camp for three levels, advanced, intermediate, and foundation. Throughout the week, they gave lectures and prepared many questions for our participants to solve. Thanks to their effort, we owe the quality of education to our beloved guides.

“The camp was amazing. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of cool people and share my knowledge. It was great to see so many algorithm enthusiasts together!”

ACWC’23 At a glance:

Our camp was held in Beykoz Kundura from January 23 to 29. Despite the cold weather, our participants found many activities in the building. We also held many tournaments such as table tennis, chess, and wordle.

To share the experience, we had an interview session with our algorithm team and guides Serra Bozkurt, Ömer Faruk Özkan, Aybala Karakaya, Melih Akpınar ve Hasan Bal, where our algorithm enthusiasts learned about company interviews and the type of the algorithm problems asked during them. In addition, the resumes of some of our participants were reviewed and an interactive discussion session was held.

“It was an amazing week where more than 50 people with the same purpose were together, motivating each other and having fun together. I wish it didn't end. If it happens a hundred times, I'll participate a hundred times.”

After a week of intensive training, during which many tasks were solved, the day of the final contest came for the participants; while the participants of our advanced group competed individually, the foundation and intermediate groups competed in teams of 2.
